Tentacle Sync app manual

Is there a manual for the sync software? I thought I remember seeing one but maybe not as I can’t find it. I am doing a 5D test tomorrow, so if there is one, it would be useful.

Hi Mike,

the manual is not ready yet, but thanks for reminding us. We have a german version, but I think this wouldn’t help you that much.

But the software is pretty self explaining. Just drag and drop your media folders in the main window, wait for analyzing to be finished and thats it. Click on any clip you like, it has already been synced. For Export you can choose between two options: Movie Export will create new synced Quicktime Files. You can choose Pass through, if you do not want to alter the tracks (just syncing) or you can transcode your material to ProRes on the fly. The other option is to export a XML file, where no media files are generated. The XML points to the original media instead.

If you have any questions feel free to ask!

Ulrich

Many thanks Ulrich. How does it handle multi track poly files? I see what you mean about it being all quite intuitive. I am recording audio on a 788T and like most, I record multitrack with mix and isos in a poly file. Do I need to adopt a different approach if working with a 5D and offer to sync up the sound with Tentacle sync? By this, I mean can it handle multi track audio?

Yes it can handle multitrack files either if they are recorded as poly files or separate files. You can sync as many tracks as you want.

Many thanks Ulrich, that’s great.

The test worked very well. So easy to use and I would be happy to offer it to any clients now who shoot on DSLRs. One question I do have, will it work with GoPros? Do they have mic powering, not that ref sound is really necessary, but a safety net I suppose. What a versatile piece of kit??

so I tried to test polywav files recorded on a 788T and the app doesn’t recognize the file TC. I know that the files have TC as they spot correctly in Pro Tools. Am I missing a step or setting?

thanks,

Leo

Hi Leo,

Just as a user, I dragged the poly wav to the left hand side of the screen, double clicked and it went to it’s correct time line and displayed the TC. I did the same with the video and it was all in sync. I have only tried 25fps so far.

@songbass: Could you upload a screenshot showing the imported 788T WAV Files on the left side of the Tentacle Sync Software Window?

the top of the list is the Poly WAV.

the others are the files i split out using Wave Agent from the same Poly WAV.

@songbas: This looks strange indeed. Could you send me the file to info tentaclesync.com ?
