I just tested the cable with a continuity tester and it's the Ground that I think is broken.  The last ring of the 4 contacts.

Definitely the right cable.  I have only used it the once.  I get intermittent connections from my iPad mini and no connection from the iPhone.  Moving the cable on the iPad is when it looses the connection....
