RED Footage not all synching properly

9.25K viewsSoftware

I’m using the tentacle sync box with my RED Dragon camera and an external audio recorder, but when I go to sync them with the software, it seems like a lot of the clips do not sync properly.  Some audio files are being paired with the wrong video, some video clips are not paired with any audio, and some video clips have multiple audio takes instead of just the proper file.  Any ideas why this is happening?

Anything further here on getting the RED files sync issue cleared up? I have a customer with RED footage that will not sync using macOS Mojave and 1.18 beta Tentacle Sync Studio.

Hi Brian,

I have really no clue whats going on there. Maybe you did use the pre-recording function in the Zoom F8. I heard that there might be problems when using timecode together with prerecording on the F8.

But of course this can also be a bug in Tentacle Sync Studio. To figure this out, it would be great if you could send me as less as possible files to reproduce the issue here. (I know, red files are biiiig…)

You can send us the files via wetransfer, dropbox, googledrive to info (at) tentaclesync.com

Ulrich

Hello Ulrich – any other ideas on how to fix this.  It’s frustrating that I bought multiple boxes to facilitate synching and this doesn’t work.  I’ve even tried having the box feed into the audio channel on my Red camera instead of the TC sync area today and it still didn’t work properly.  There has to be a way for this to work properly, but it’s been a complete waste of time and money so far and very frustrating to have to go in and fix all the synching since it’s not working right.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some clips are in sync while others are not.  We are using the Zoom 8, and I’ve checked and the clips aren’t paused at all.  Some days only a couple clips are out of sync, and other day around half of the clips are out of sync.

I’ve attached a screen shot of what it looks like.  You can see that some of the shots have more audio tracks than we recorded, and others that should have audio do not have the audio with it.  Some of the clips with audio have the wrong audio files with the video files.  So basically, it’s kind of all over the place.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Hi Brian,

are there any clips in sync? Or are some clips in sync and other are not?

What kind of external audio recorder are you using? I am asking because in case you have used a Zoom (H4,H6,…) recorder this sounds like you may have paused the recording on the recorder instead of stopping and starting again. Pausing the audio recorder will result in an audiofile with more than one timecode which Tentacle Sync Studio is not able to handle. It’s just a guess in case there are clips in sync and others are not.

Ulrich
