Tentacle sync to denecke slate
Dear Tentacle Sync,
I am about to purchased a couple of boxes. Beside jamming to dslr and cameras, it is possibile to jam also electronic slates such as denecke slate from one tentacle sync? I meant with a proper cable (1/8 to 1/4 hrs) ?
I just want to be sure
Thank you
Antonio
Hi Antonio,
as the ts-3 has a mono 1/4 inch input, this cable will do the job: https://shop.tentaclesync.com/product/tentacle-to-63mm/
“They don’t call it a Quarter Pounder with Cheese? – No, they got the metric system there” ?
Best,
Ulrich
Short Result:
TS3 (tc 25fps) ran off internally 1 frame against Tentacle Unit after 4-6hrs.
Since the Tentacle is so small and energy efficient I´ll velcro one unit to the TS3 backside for production if necessary.
OK , here comes Denecke TS3 internal TC vs. Tentacle TC:
Today I started the Denecke jammed to Tentacle, 25fps, room temperature.
Direct test was 0frames off (perfect!) at 00:00:00:00
1h:20min (total) TS3 was offset 1 frame (slower than Tentacle)
5h:30min (total) TS3 was offset 3 frames (slower than Tentacle)
Rg. the price of a Tentacle its a good idea to spend a dedicated Tentacle directly to the TS3 for continous jamming – otherwise better sync it every 1-2 hrs.
Aren’t you assuming that it is the TS3 that is a few frames slower, could the Tentacle not be a few frames faster?
What are you using as a control?
Unfortunately taking photo’s is not a definitive test and results can vary enormously.
The only way to be sure is to use either a Timecode Master Unit like the Ambient Clockit Controller or something like the compare feature on the Sound Devices 6 Series Recorders.
Why are you getting any drift if you are using the TS as master? In other words, why are you still jamming if you have a dedicated unit on the slate?
